I've already successfully made 2 DVD rips into SVCD. However one of the short comings is the Audio. I have my DVD player connected to the reciever with Sub warfer. It just doesn't sound as great as the Original. Also the volume is low

Is there any way or method to extract the audio from the VOB file conserving the Quality of Dolby Digital and perhaps make the sound louder? I use DVD2AVI to extract the audio but there must be a better way that can make the Audio sound loud and as close as the Original.

The other issue is with Encoding. I use TMPGEnc 2.5X to encode my SVCD. I use "Constant Bit Rate" at around 1700-2000 k/s. I try to make sure that the movie could fit on 2 CDs using the Wizard and I will go no lower than 1700k/s which is around 50 minutes. On high action scenes, the noise (Blockyness) can be seen.

I see other methods of encoding using Variable Bit Rate (VBR) and 2 pass VBR, CBR. What method works best for Stretching at least 50 minutes on SVCD and keeping the noise level as low as possible.

Also, is a SVCD with Bitrate less than 2500 k/s still standard?

    Thanks

2-pass is best and less than 2500 is standard ( as long as audio + video is less than 2600 ).

BeSweet can do dynamic range compression during .ac3 -> .mp2 conversion to help bring up the volume of the audio. This means doing audio seperatly, but that's not really a big deal.

  3. Dolby Digital can't be preserved to (S)VCD as when the wav is encoded to mpeg audio all the stuff get jumbled and you may hear lot's of glitches.

I wouldn't worry too much about "Dynamic Range Compression" just normalise the ausio first. you can use a whole pile of apps to do this for you.
