  1. I have just burned some SVCD's using Nero 5.5.9.0 and now, I can't read them on my Lite On 40125W. The CD's I used were CD-RW's so that I could rewrite them later if I decided to. The CD's play fine in my stand alone DVD player, but I can't use them on my computer. Whenever I insert on into my drive, the green light on the burner just continues flashing and will do nothing else. I have even left it alone for over 30 minutes and it will do nothing. If I go to my computer and click on the Lite on drive, it will show nothing. It is like as soon as I install the CD's, they try to use all my system resources, and it slows my system down. I simply cannot read these CD's on my burner or even access them. I can play the SVCD files that are on my computer that I used to burn them. I have burned SVCD's in CD-R format and had no problem playing them back on my computer, it is only CD-RW's that are giving me problems. I can't even get my computer to read the name of the disk or anything.

As I said before, these CD's are CD-RW's for the simple reason of being able to reuse them again and again, but now I can't.

What can I do? Is the problem something relating to the software or simply a preference in Nero that I have incorrectly setup?

    I am using XP Pro.

    Thanks.

  2. It might not mean anything, but Microsoft have a patch (or 2) out regarding CD-RW support in XP. Check out Windowsupdate etc.
My XP is patched as much as is humanely possible, and seems fine, could work for you too! Otherwise it could be the discs themselves, as I know loads of people who have had problems with cheap CD-RW's....

  3. I have all the current updates. I have been using Memorex 1-4x 700MB CD-RW's, so I don't really know if the brand is the problem or what. I did burn an ISO a couple of days ago on a different brand of CD-RW, and then copied over it fine, but then again, I don't recall what I selected in the box below. What I can't help to wonder is if the Finalize CD (No further writing possible) selection from the screenshot below may have anything to do with it or not. I did select this since the tutorial of How to Burn SVCD with Nero said to use it, but I would assume they are referring to CD-R's instead of RW's (if this setting would make a difference). I am a newbie to some of this, so I could only go on what it said.

    Any other suggestions?

Looking at those settings I can see no problem as far as your burning technique. My best guess is there is a problem with the media itself. I'd try another brand of CD-RW and see if it makes a difference. Also try burning one to a CD-R and see if you run into the same problem as a test.

I have burned several CD-R's in the past week and have had no problem in playing them back on my computer. They were also set up as finalized as mentioned above.

What I don't understand is why I cannot read the burned CD-RW on my burner, but it plays just fine on my stand alone DVD player connected to the TV. I also do not understand why the burner just seems to hang when I put a burned CD-RW into it. I am burning another CD-RW now, but it is a 650 instead of a 700, and I did not click on the finalize button for this one.

Just a simple question for anyone who can answer...What is the proper setting for burning a SVCD on a CD-RW, with the intention of being able to rewrite something different on it later...enable finalize or disable finalize? And also, I guess what I am wondering is if finalizing is enabled on a CD-RW, will it actually convert it to a CD-R and not allow me to re-write on it later? (Don't even ask...I think I even confused myself on this one )

    boatboy63,
As I was trying to explain earlier you're burning correctly. You shouldn't have to make any changes when burning to a CD-RW. As for not finalizing the session on a CD-RW all you've done is make it so now it won't play in your stand-alone player. You didn't post your computer details so it's hard to give you an exact answer. If you have a DVD-Rom onboard try playing it in that. Also do the files show up when you click on that drive thru Window's explorer? If not you have an unfortunate, but not entirely unknown case of where the drive can write to the media but not read it. Also what type of software are you using to playback the disc on your computer? If its Windows Media Player forget it, it won't work. I suggest using Cyberlink's Power DVD XP. It might be something as simple as having your drive set in PIO mode instead of DMA. Without more details on your configuration all I can do is guess. If you want to go further on this e-mail me at crazyjohn_43@hotmail.com. I'm willing to help.
