ok,
if svcds is your gig. i cant reccomend this program enough!
it does everything for you, all you have to do is tell it where to save the finished product! it uses cce instead of TMPgenc and it can let you do up to a 5 pass vbr. usually 4 is plenty though. then set the image quality to 100.
i fit a 1:45 min movie (american psycho) on 2 80 min cdrs and the image quality is amazing! it looks as good as dvd, seriously...its hard to tell the difference. do yourself a favor and try it once, just for the hell of it. youll never turn back. oh and it cuts the finished product for you as well, and we all know that tmpgenc doesnt cut svcds for shit

Mr. Bininya is right. I made at least 80 movies to svcd with tmpeg. I have done 2 so far with dvd2svcd and there is no comparison in the quality and speed, and conenience. A one step thing is much easier than several steps. The movies I burned with dvd2svcd are my first svcd's I've made that haven't had blockiness in them. Even in high action scene's, it looked like the dvd. I even fit this 2 hour movie on 2 cd's and it was that good. And yes it is freeware, and its available at the doom site. All you need to do is search for CCE 2.5, or you can buy it for $1000. Whichever you want.

yes
look up!
go there. download it. crack cce 2.5(must use this version of cce!-very important)
next
download the guide and follow it to the T!
but enter in 4 pass vbr and image quality 100 instead of the standard 15 or whatever to get rid of all the blocks.
trust me the quality is amazing! and 2 cds maybe 3 at the vvery most is not bad at all for this kind of quality.
it might take some time to convert but all you have to do is click go and just walk away! plus it will remember your settings once you have them set how you want it.
i have a p4 1.7 g and an hour and a half movie takes me like 3-5 hours usually depending on how many passes i do in the vbr, and the image quality. i want my shit looking the best, though. you can always compromise if you dont want to wait, but what the hell you might as well sleep on it anyway, it will do all the work for you and open the necessary programs and everything! -
see?
dont just take my word for it!
make a movie with this proggie and report back your results
i hope this helps you guys out- i know you newbies will love this. i know how frustrating it is to have to deal with all these different programs, and then have to deal with some bullshit like audio out of synch and not being able to cut your files , etc...
just get it already! -
On average what's the difference in encoding time compared to TMPGenc? I have everything I need...just need to try it, but was curious about the encoding time differences.
-
I am in the middle of trying it. However - it seems to also need I-Author to get full functionality. I'm not sure where to get this, how much it costs etc. because the site under Tools is down.
Any info?

ok,
i downloaded dvd2svcd from doom9's site.
the only thing i needed to crack was the cce v2.5
do a search for cce 2.50 cracked version on google, thats how i found it although i cant remember where.
in terms of encoding time, i feel it smokes tmpgenc, and im doing it at a 4-pass vbr instead if tmpgenc's limited 2 pass.
just search around, and check out the readmes
oh and by the way, i still use smartripper to rip my vobs-
just pesonal prefernece, but if you are NOT going to use the dvdripper dvd2svcd has(vstrip) make sure that the tab is not checked to allow dvdripping. or thje program will crash at the dvd2avi part of it, saying file not found.
good luck!
and good hunting.
oh and in terms for troubleshooting, use the forum at doom9 cus this works for me without a hitch! -
oh,
you only need i-author if you are planning to make menus and stuff. i feel this is a waste because i dont even use the added features on the dvds i own anyway.
but some people do and thats fine...
you can burn the image with nero by exiting the wizard and going to
file-new
burn image
then select the .cue
select your burn speed and
watch your movie! -
You only need I-Author to make selectable subtitles or certain menus. However, what I normally due is use TSVC to add chapters and then burn the movie.
CCE vs. TMPGenc. I have a Tbird 1.2Ghz, each pass with CCE takes ~1.3x the movie run time, with TMPGenc each pass takes ~4x the runtime. That's MUCH faster.
Also note that CCE's multipass is different from TMPGencs 2pass VBR. CCE first makes a CBR/VBR pass, and then makes the number of multipasses that you enter.
Ie. if you enter 1, that's the same as TMPGencs 2pass VBR (it'll do a CBR/VBR pass, and then 1 multipass). I normally set CCE multipass to 1 for stuff I just want to back up, and 3 (ie 4 passes) for stuff I like. I can't see a difference between 3 and 4, and it saves ~2hrs so...
DVD2SVCD will also determine force film or not automatically (very nice) and run pulldown if necessary, which also improves quaility. There are currently some 'slight' problems with permanant subtitles. But they should all be worked out when beta12 is released. -
this should answer most questions about the software
