  1. i've searched around here, and i'm relatively new to this, but i can't seem to figure this out. can a pal dvd be ripped and converted to a vcd or svcd that will play on most ntsc players? is there an easy way to do this? my player seems to play pal vcd's fine, so i know i could easily convert to pal vcd, but i'm interested in something compatible for most dvd players in the US. also, can most ntsc dvd players that play vcds play them in pal format too? any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks

Yes a PAL DVD could be ripped and converted to NTSC
    Smartripper
DvdX PAL in > NTSC VCD (mpeg 1) Out

Most modern DVD players will play both, sometimes you get PAL in PAL out, so your TV needs to display the correct format also, most modern TV's should....

Some DVD players have NTSC in PAL out and PAL 50 in NTSC 60 out there are lots of different combinations available.

You need to experiment to see what's best for you, especially with the frame rate conversion, on fast moving movies, it may be a bit jerky
