  1. Hi, This is my 1st post and hope all of you can pitch in and help me here. Just created my 1st vcd using - Source from Sony DV, Capture using Studio DV, TMGENc to convert to mpeg option non-interlace, 1:1VGA,top-field A, default bit rate, nero to burn to vcd. The vcd play back from dvd player is not that good at all. It has blocks (I think it's call macroblocks). Am I doing the right options? Can I make the vcd qaulity better? If yes, how? Thanks so much in advance.................

You might want to try svcd and see if it is good enough quality. Although if i were you i would make an xsvcd with the following specs
    VBR 1600 bitrate
    480 X 480(576 pal) resolution
    High Quality Motion seach precision
    3:2 pulldown encode mode
    23.976 fps (internally 29.970)
    160 audio
Load the unlock template and then go to settings to change to these specs

Make an xvcd all you have to do is change it to mpeg 1 and leave everthing else the same.

  5. p1fcl01, I have a Sony player also (sorry don't remember the exact model #), but it can only play DvD's and standard VCD's. The standards for VCD are:
    1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
    352 x 240 pixels
    29,97 frames/second
    23,976 frames/second NTSC Film
    Audio:
    224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
As long as you maintain these standards, it will play fine on your Sony player. I'm also using CD-R's with my Sony player. I use the STI brand from Circuit City because they have a higher reflective coating than other brands.

This is what you should do. Go look on your dvd player and find the exact model number. Then go to the dvd players on the left and see if it supports xvcd. If it does then make a mpeg 1 movie with 480 X 480 resolution, VBR 1600 or so bitrate. 128 or 160 bitrate audio, motion search precision set to high quality, encode mode set to 3:2 pulldown, FPS set to 23.976(internally 29.970)(it will only say this after you have set it to 3:2 pulldown). Or if it doesn't support svcd try making a standard vcd with the motion search to high or very high quality, and make the bitrate higher.
