Hey,
I have just prucahsed a DVD-R/RW and want to back up some of my DVD's to DVD-R's, I have noticed my DVD's are around dubble the size is there any easy programs i can use to compress these so I can fit them on to the 4.7GB DVD-R's and still be able to play them in my home DVD player?
Please give much detail all links where possible as I am new to this, and have no idea.
Thanks Bryce

I'm in the same position as u m8, there are a number og tutorials in the "DVD RIP" section. I have tried a couple without success yet as its complicated even with the guides.
I dont think 2 many ppl will come forward 2 help unless u have a go first and then come back n ask specific questions when yr stuck.Cheers

Hey, I here ya mate, I have tried a few no luck getting problems I am trying another now hopefully it works i am just looking for a easy way which works.
Thanks Bryce -
Hi m8,
Ive found 2 that worked 4 me, 1 u only end up with the main movie, but the quality is near perfect. The other u have to reduce the main movie quality by quite a bit but u get all the menu and extras just like the original.
If u need any help give me a shout and i'll go through em with yaCheers

Hey, Jaffa. Could you please tell which method you mean by "end up with the main movie, but the quality is near perfect"? I'm about to get a DVD-R soon and I'm quite interested in which of the numerous methods for DVD to DVD-R works best. Cheers

Hi all....
I wouldn't know about what the "best" method is but here is what I do and it seems to work out ok.
I rip the movie with Smartripper using stream processing to get only the movie and 1 soundtrack and demux them to 1 m2v and 1 ac3 file.
If the total result is less than 4.3GB ( 4,700,000,000 bytes) then I do nothing otherwise I input the m2v file into ReMPEG2 and re-encode it to a lower bitrate so that it will fit ( I use a bitrate calculator to find the optimum setting)
I then take the final m2v and ac3 file and import them into Spruce Up and add chapters (and if the mood takes me, menus as well). When finished I export the project to a folder and edit the IFO files if needed (Spruce doesn't support 16:9 DVD's) and burn the results with Nero.
I'm sure there is an easier way but this is what works for me...if it works for you too...then great
