    Can anyone recommend some software which will allow me to look at, indeed 'extract' if that is the correct expression, the contents of either BIN or ISO files.

    If it's the mpg file U want from a (S)VCD BIN, then VCDGear is the tool. More generally, there are quite a few tools that lets U mount a bin/ISO as if it was a CD. Take a look under the TOOLS section!
