Following MilOtis’s gudie, I ripped ‘Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Complete’ (region A) to an ISO with Anydvd HD successfully. When mounted with Daemon Tools, the ISO could be played by Powerdvd Ultra without any problem.

However, when I opened BD Rebuilder and selected the letter of the virtual drive, BDRB just popped up a box saying “selected source is not BD format” and stopped.

What have I done and what should I do? Please help me out!

Please post blu-ray backup in blu-ray to blu-ray forum. Moving you.

What happens if you select the blu-ray drive directly(with anydvd enabled)? Same error?

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

I have tried to browse the genuine BD with Anydvd enabled, but the BDRB did not work either.

    my process is as follows:

    1. Click Browse button;
    2. Highlight the letter of the virtual drive with an ISO mounted
    3. Others folders pop up under the letter (e.g. ANY!, BDMV)
    4. Select virtual drive and Click Open;
    5. "BD Rebuilder experienced an error 2501"&"Selected source is not BD format" dialog box

The same situation happens over and over again, whenever Anydvd is enabled or disabled.

Try mounting the iso w/ Slysoft's VCD (Virtual Clone Drive) (free)

There must be something wrong with the way you're making the image or something, because I did that exact movie with BD Rebuilder, no problem. Now, that was a US region BD, so not sure if what you're using is different, but I can't imagine it would be THAT different.

  6. Try selecting the BDMV folder? Do you get the same error?

    1. Of course I also tried virtual clone drive 5435 and alcohol 1.98.7612 to mount the ISO, but they didn't make any difference.

    2. For anydvd hd, I used 6571 and only pressed the "rip to image" and "copy dvd" buttons. What else can I click?

    3. I tried to select the BMDV folder, but BDRB still didn't process any further.

Anyway, I am now shifting to AVCHD Coder, which could read the BDMV folder and started re-encoding!!! although it is a little bit slow.... just hope it works after 1X hours...

Slysoft specifically states that the "rip to image" function is a last resort, rip to folder, and than make a iso w/ VCD's "folder to iso" function

  9. I'm having the same problem with BD Rebuilder 0.33.0.4 and 0.32.0.8. It says "selected source is not BD format" even though I used AnyDVD 6.6.3.4 to rip the disk to an image on the hard drive, and Virtual Clone Drive 5.4.4.0 to mount the iso file, per milOtis's instructions. Please help if you can.

You may have to manually add the (mostly empty) folders that make up the BD folder structure

  11. Your problem seems to be the same as in this thread:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/318762-BD-Rebuilder-shwing-problem?p=1975907

It may be that BDRB is being fooled by the disc structure and doesn't see the true size of the main movie. That would result in just such an error message. Try scanning the disc with BDinfo.

In the above link, ClownBD was able to extract the main movie, you might try that. Make sure you select an audio output, i.e. unconverted, core, AC3.

    Good luck.

[EDIT] Once the main movie is extracted, BDRB should have no further problem with it.

    BDInfo reports:
"The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."

    AnyDVD 6.6.3.4 reports:

Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.6.3.4)
    ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4
    Drive (Hardware) Region: 1
    Media is a Blu-Ray disc.
Total size: 16881824 sectors (32972 MBytes)
    Video Blu-ray label: MASA
    Media is not AACS protected.
Note: automatic detection of region code not possible with this disc.

What are the file system drivers referred to by BDInfo that need to be loaded? I installed Virtual Clone Drive with all the default options during the installation process.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

  13. Oh, you have XP. Did you install UDFReader? You should see something with BDinfo, even if it's erroneous.

  14. Yes, I'm using XP Pro SP3, whereas milOtis is evidently using either Vista or Win7, judging from his screenshots. That obviously makes a BIG difference! When I used AnyDVD's "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk" option rather than the "Rip to Image" option, I was able to get BDRB to work correctly. At least I now have a viable workaround.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions and ideas.

  15. What I've noticed is the files I'm trying to copy seem to be both BD and DVD, there is no longer a BDMV folder or Streaming folder all files are in the same folder so I think BD Rebuilder is being tricked into thinking this is a DVD and not a blu ray file.

The disk was Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker ripped to HD with AnyDVD.
