  1. Has anyone had the problem with getting tmpgenc to work on xp? When I choose a file to load I get the "This program has encountered an error" msg from windows. I have tried several versions and they all do that. It used to work, however, then just stopped. I have tried it on different drives also to no avail. Any Ideas?

  2. I dunno about that, i've heard that XP has many software and hardware problems. I just know that TMPGEnc is slow as hell. It says it's going to take 8 hours to do this (not sure what i'm doin so I cant say what it is)

    Hi,

It isn't XP itself. Many of us are using it with no problems whatsoever.

Have you applied all XP updates?

Are you also using Limewire, KaaZa (sp?) etc.; these can destabilize a system. Also, in general, the more software and from different manufactures you have installed the less stable your system will be.

Get the disk-drive-verify software from your drive manufacturer's website and test your drive fully. IBM, Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital all have it for their drives; I don't know about others.

Many problems can be traced to marginal hardware, especially memory. Encoding is a real hardware stress-test because it is both computation (the actual encoding) and I/O intensive (large files).

    What about cooling?

  4. I did have XP on and found lots of problems with it. to cut a long story short I tried everything (all updates for hardware and software) and it didn't work. Put 2k back on updated everything including my mobo drivers etc and it works fine now.

just worked for me thats all.

i too went back to win 2k. i would find myself reinstalling win xp every week sometimes twice a week because every little uninstall would make it cry like a baby. i called it quits finally when i couldn't even get media player to open mpeg files talking about some kind of .dll error( i dunno i forget exactly what kind of .dll it was). win 2k doesn't start up as fast, maybe 30 seconds slower. but my shutdown is like 5 seconds.
