  1. when i make a vcd that has subtitles on it, the bottom is always cut off. I can't read it. I use TMPGenc. Can anyone tell me a good setting where it won't get cut off if i wanna play the vcd on my TV. and does the source's video size ratio affect the video size after encoding.

  2. ya i just had this problem and posted about it too, it's called overscanning. It could be that your tv is too underscanned. I'm still trying to find a solution.

It's not just the bottom you should notice that the top, and sides are cut off too but since there's no subtitles there it's not as noticeable.

  3. There's no way to avoid TV cropping, so you'll just have to position your subtitles further away from the bottom. Most TVs will chop 5-10% off each edge. My TV crops ~8% off the bottom, which means I don't want to display subtitles any more than 20 pixels from the bottom (assuming 352x240 resolution).

I've been following the guide here for adding subtitles. The VirtualDub plugin has a y-offset that you can use to shift the subtitles upward. You can also shrink them down. Of course, if your source isn't DVD, this won't be much help

  4. well I think someone solved this problem for me, when I posted concerning this problem frotsen replied with this:

You have to add rezise and add boarders in order to maintain aspect ratio. Fitcd
calculates the right rezise and "take care of the overscanning".

    If you using Tmpgenc:
advanced tab: Video arrange method: center custom size:calculated size
video tab: size: enter video size (PAL vcd 352*288 ......)

This way you add boarders and maintain the aspect ratio

    Hope it helps frotsen

well i've encoded the videos and burnt them and it solved my problem so maybe you can give that a try.

  5. Well, I have a opposite problem. The subtitles are too high for me, it is at about lower 1/3 of the screen, could any advise me how I can bring it down to the botter of the screen for wide screen or the bottom black area that will be better.
