during playback i am getting horizontal black lines across the screen...but only on bits that are moving thru the scene (ie camera still and people moving) what is this??
player is a starmedia from SVP

You are probably watching an interlaced video clip on your PC screen. If you are using DVD software, then most of them these days let you customise the video to eliminate the "lines". (Try using "bob" option and not "weave")
However, the only way to watch an interlaced video clip in the way it's meant to be seen is on a TV screen.

sorry should of included more info... its a standalone starmedia player from svp on there bargains page www.121cdr.co.uk and i am running it thru TV....
occasionally when the scenes cut or move quickly it gets black lines thru it...like the old vcd players blocking up (only lines instead of blocks) -
In that case, it could just be a limitation of the hardware if it's in the bargain section. If it's quite severe though, more likely a fault.
