  1. Hello. I'm trying to convert my first .avi film & not having much luck.

The .avi I'm trying to work on has the following properties:

Media length: 67 min 6.693 sec
Audio format: MPEG Layer-3,189 kBit/s, 48000 Hz, Stereo
    Video format: 640 x 352, 96544 Frames, 23.976 Frames/Sec,
    176 KB/Sec, Unknown Format
    Software: Nandub v1.0rc2

My burner is Nero 5.5.9.0 which can do the encoding for you but burns it to cd straight afterwards - I tried using that & after 3.5hours ended up with a film that plays upside down.

I'm now trying TMPGEnc 2.57. It wouldn't let me change any of the MPEG Setting > Video so I've had to go along with what I presume is the default. It shows the following when I click on Setting:

    Video: MPEG-1 Video
    Size: 352 x 288 pixels
Aspect ratio: 4:3 625 line (PAL)
    Frame rate: 25 fps
    Rate control: Constant bitrate (CBR)
    Bitrate: 1150

When I preview play the mpg being created, the aspect ratio looks off (everyone's elongated). In addition to that, though TMPGEnc still seems to be working, the screen has been showing the same image for almost an hour.

Please can someone advise me on how to correct the upside down effect caused by Nero's encoding, and also how to correct the aspect ratio issue in TMPGEnc, as I couldn't see any examples of what the different aspect ratios look like. Asa I said before, this is the first conversion I've tried, so if you need more info please let me know. Many thanks.

When the .avi file is loaded in TMPGEnc, select Load. A list of templates will appear. Selecting these will change the settings depending on what the final purpose of you video will be.
    Hello.

It should not say Unknown format, that indicates there is a missing codec, install the Nimo codec pack to see if it now shows it correctly.

    http://nimo.everwicked.com/ http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/ may also be www.divx.com for DivX 5.02

Use TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to mpg Not Nero, after the codec's have been installed, convert a little of the move to see if it is now OK.

    If not try this

    TMPGEnc
    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

Now at the bottom click the load button to load a VCD template PAL/NTSC

Click setting > advanced and make sure the output is set at full screen > keep aspect ratio
