    Hiya all,

I need some help. I have a file here I am trying to convert to dvd format and so far everything I have used has sent the audio out of whack.

If I watch the file on my PC it is spot on but I have tried the following methods and the audio is stuffed on each one. I am not talking about a couple of frames out either. In on instance it was about 5min out.

1/ I used Nero Vision to import the AVI, set it and burnt it. Audio out!!!

2/ I used TMPGenc 4.0 Express to convert and audio was fine on the outputted file. I then used Nero to convert and burn and audio out of whack.

3/ I used TMPGenc 4.0 Express to convert and audio was fine on the outputted file. I then used TMPGenc DVD Author 1.6 to convert and audio out of whack

4/ I used VirtualDub to change from VBR 3.0 audio as per the sticky post and this sent my audio out of whack aswell.

    Here is the file details:

    FILE_NAME Ice Age 2.avi

Many responses (to numerous to count) to your kind of problem suggest using FAVC (free) or ConvertxtoDVD (Trialware). You may want to give those a shot.

Nero and tmpgenc are always hit and mis when it comes to VBR MP3 audio. At least now they don't crash.

I second the use of FAVC or DVD Flick as free alternatives.

    Hiya,

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I used FAVC under HC encoding and it still spat out my DVD with about a 5 min displacement in audio. Am trying it again using the QuEnc section to see what it does.

It also took near on 3 hrs to convert. Is this normal for FAVC? My laptop that I do my conversions on has pretty high specs and I can normally encode using TMPGenc in about an hour and 10min to burn the disc.

If those are the specs in your profile then a) they aren't that high any more, and b) the timing sounds about right. On my Quad core a full movie takes less than 30 minutes using HCEnc on Best settings.

HCEnc is a far better encoder than ConvertXtoDVD or Tmpgenc Xpress. The cost of quality is speed.

You might also have to face the sad fact that your file may be screwed, and short of manually adjusting sync after encoding (simple if the difference is a constant amount) you might not get a conversion. It happens.

    Hiya,

Sorry, just adjusted my specs, but these are for my PC, my laptop specs are higher CPU but lower RAM.

I used the QuEnc and this is about the same with the gap in audio. Just trying it in avi2dvd to see if this works, otherwise I came to the same conclusion that the file may be screwed.

Why would the conversion to mpeg (dvd format) through TMPGenc work, yet when I convert it to VOB files etc for DVD it get screwed? I haven't had this on any other files and I have done quite a few in my time.

Well, I have given up on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried using avi2iso and convertxtodvd and both still gave the audio problem.

This file is now in the bin and I will move on.

Thanks to the guys who tried to help. I now have some additional software to use if I stumble over this problem again.

    Cheers 8)
