I would like to know if this DVD-player that I'm going to buy can play VCD.
It's from a cheap brand named Magnum, and I don't know the full name of the player.
However that this brand is sold in a cheap supermarket chain here in Western Europe it should be of good quality, because I already bought 2 perfectly working pc's there.
I also can't find a website from the brand on the internet, but I know the brand for some years know.

It can play DVD, music-CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP-3, foto CD (JPEG-format).
If anyone knows something about this player please post it here.

Most DVD players that can play CD-Rs should be able to play home made VCDs. However, if they have your model on display, why not take one of your self-authored (S)VCDs to the store and see if it will play it?

Yeah I know but that is one of the problems, this store sells these players all at one time and they don't have a display of the player in their store.
It is a sort of a one in a life-time buying chance.

I would go the DVD Player section on the right and do some checking. Search for players that can play VCD, SVCD, XSVCD, CVD, DVD+, MP3 and whatever else you want to play. It will give you a list of know players that can do it. Then pick one and go buy it....

I have the RCA 5240p ($100USD) and it playes just about anytihng. Dont know if you can get that model over there or not....

Nope, I can't buy it over here.
But I will scoop a bit in the DVD player section and try to eliminate the players who can play cd-r, cd-rw and mp3 and can't play VCD and SVCD.
If they aren't with many I'm going to chance it and buy this Magnum-model. Maybe they can take it back.

But if you guys know more about this Magnum player, please post it here.

Aldi get most of its stock from Germany does it not !, maybe a look around the German sites may help ?

Big W, is also selling cheap DVD players, and the Philips (630 ?) there will play anything.

Ah, well that's another thing... I did have a look around for you, and have seen the Magnum in our Aldi store (2 in Coventry).

Well My daughter bought the Philips from Big W and brought it around here to test it, I tried everything, VCD, MP3, DVD rips, cam's NTSC, PAL and CDR-W and it played them all very well.
