Well, I do not remember where I got the process from, but it is really simple. First load Virtual Dub (VDub) load your video and watch it with a pad and pencil.

When you get to spot where you want to put your first subtitle, stop VDub and write down the time and a mnemonic of your subtitle on your pad. Continue until you are finished watching your video.

Load Sub Station Alpha. In the white box without the numbers, type in your first subtitle. Then click in the top box marked "Start". Type in the time for your first subtitle. Click in the box marked "Duration", and load the amount of time you want your subtitle to last.

Sub Station Alpha will automatically update the "End" box. Press return until the next entry box highlights. Continue until all your subtitles and times are entered. Save the file as as an .ssa file.

Go back to VDub. Add the filter "subtitler" or "TextSub". Load the .ssa file into the subtitle filter requester. Frameserve or save the .avi file. You should now have subtitled video -- Voila!

The filter is called Logo. You have to create the logo yourself, using your favorite paint program. Then when you add the Logo filter, you select the file that has your logo. You can then use fade in/out, transparency, etc.
