  1. Why is it so hard to get an acceptable SVCD out of premiere?
VCD's are ok, but SVCD's are horrible. Even with the new 6.5 version, which has a build in MPEG encoder, it is not possible to get an acceptable SVCD. Don't they test the stuff? Or do they only test with NTSC material?

I really don't get this. Did someone manage to create a PAL SVCD that actually looks good on TV? And if so, please tell me which settings you used. (Sorry Betamax, you're help didn't get me any further). I've testing about every setting there is, but got nowhere so far.

    Plz help!

    Desperate Dutch Dude, Marcel.

  2. Premiere is a fine editor, but I like TMPGEnc for encoding.

I do my editing in premiere, then save the finished timeline as AVI. Then I encode to mpg2 SVCD (or DVD) using TMPGEnc. I've had excellent results with this combo.

  3. I also export the avi and use TMPG, but then still the SVCD looks horrible. VCD however looks very good (for a VCD).

    Do you use specific settings?

  4. Forgot to ask, do you use the microsoft DV AVI or the regular Microsoft AVI setting when exporting?

  6. I use Microsoft AVI when exporting from Premiere.

In TMPGEnc I have been using 2-pass VBR with 2300 max bitrate. I try to use the highest quality settings even though it takes longer to encode. If my source is interlaced, I encode interlaced.

In my project settings I am using HuffyUV codec for shorter segments and PIC Video MJPEG codec for longer ones.

  7. My god. Premiere to SVCD seems almost impossible!

Circleking, when you export the timeline with the regular MS AVI, (not the DV AVI), do you use any specific settings?

I know about HuffUV, i installed that as well. But the other one i am not aware of. Were can i find the PIC video MJPEG codec?
You did get good results right?

S2krazy, are you getting god results now? Or are you stil in the trial and error phase?

Still "unfulfilled" on my video CD quest. Part of the problem is my home player does not do SVCD, and seems to be VERY picky on the type of media used for regular VCD. I've made both, but have been unable to see them on a TV for evaluation. I'm going to hunt for new media for home and try again, and also look for someone who can play the discs I've already made to verify they actually work.
    Aloha,
    Colin
