Hi all..
i have no problems burning mpegs to a vcd and watching them ..all done with nero
the other day i got a film ..
film "X" lets call it
Video Stream: XviD MPEG-4 codec, 640x272, 24 bit, 104363 frm, 23,9760 frm/s, 1341,837 kbit/s
Audio Stream: FAST Multimedia AG DVM (Dolby AC3), 48000 Hz, 448,000 kbit/s, 5 channels
is the specs...
its an AVI file..
So i thought simple..so i chucked it in nero..tried to burn..nothing..
i read the help topics here..
using virtual dub etc etc..all seemed long winded and frankly for this newbiea bit confusing ...so i ask here in front of you all ..
Is there an easy way of converting AVI (divx i imagine) files to a VCD "easily"... ?
thx if anyone can help and im off to read some more guides

Hi. A GREAT program to use for this is TMPGEnc. You can download it here:
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
Instructions:
Open TMPGEnc, and click on Browse in the Video Source selection. Select the video file your trying to convert. Now click on Browse in the "Output File" part and select where you want to save the new MPG VCD compliant video file.
Now click on "Load", and select VideoCD (NTSC) [I assume you have a DVD player that plays the North American movies].
Now click on Settings, go to the Advanced tab. For the Field Order, select Top Field First. For the Source Asptec Ratio, select 16:9 (NTSC). Click OK.
The file is ready to be converted. Now click Start at the top left, and it will begin to create the new video file. Once it has finished, you can burn it with Nero and it should work on your DVD player. You may also need to split the file so it will fit on several CD-R's.
Hope this Helps. -
For the aspect ratio in TMPEnc, what formats are for regular TV and what formats are for wide format TV. Isnt 4:3 for regular TV and 16:9 for wide formats ?
Thx
