SVCDs on Panasonic RV31 - Can't do it.

1) Captured as DV
2) Converted to SVCD with TMpeg's "Super Video-CD NTSC" template (MPEG2, 480x480, 2000 kbps)
3) In TMpeg, went in "Simple Multiplex", dropped SVCD created above and set type as "MPEG-1 VCD"
4) In Nero, burned as standard VCD.

No luck. What am I doing wrong? I really want video quality and I'm not getting it with VCDs.

You're using the wrong player.
I have this player also, and no, it can't play SVCD.

According to the reviews on this site, it CAN play SVCDs if you do some trick. I did the trick mentionned, but it still doesn't work.

Many people have said on this "DVD player comment" list that they successfully played SVCDs on the Panasonic RV-31

That didn't work either With many people successfully making SVCDs for the RV31, I guess I'm the one doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it is.

Does anything look wrong with this? I'm using 80 minutes Maxell CD-Rs

I haven't used TMPGEncoder, but you say you converted and dropped an SVCD, but then burned it in Nero as a VCD? Maybe a misprint, but if not it might be that you crossed formats and should reburn in Nero as an SVCD.

Sorry, "Cross-burning" isn't the prob. What they mean is that they remuxed a SVCD as a VCD so the DVD player will read the file header and load the SVCD. All of the posts you have read are not a lie. I own one and it works beautiful. Only advice is double check all settings in TMPG.

One question...there seem to be such a mix of responses to the SVCD prob that I wonder if there is a more definite way to identify which RV31 people have. Mine plays MP3's, while others won't. Maybe FCC#?

you not soppose to burn it as a standard vcd.

chopy right in regard to burning your project, one of the guides here makes
mention of it, forgot which one? Also check TMPGenc setting when you remux the header as 'non-standard' for mpeg-1.
I have a Panasonic RV-26 with mp3 capabilty. The SVCD header trick did work to some extend. I had green macro blocks on the base (bottom) of my movies.
If all else fails try KVCD.net new templates, Although not SVCD quality, it yield admirable results for three of movies...

Hey folks,

I am the fool who posted that this player would play SVCDs if you told NERO to make a VCD and gave it a SVCD MPEG file....

I was new to the whole VCD thang, and I didn't know my butt from a whole in the ground. Nero was re-encodeing the file into VCD format. I didn't realize what was up untill MUCH later...
