I use TMPGEnc to convert my avi files to mpg files which I then burn to VCD. There is a hiss or hum on the audio.
TMPGEnc audio settings:
stream type-- MPEG1 audio layer 2
sampling frequency-- 44100
channel mode-- stereo
Bit rate-- 224
emphasis-- none
