    Major,

It seems as though everyone is having the same issues with audio sync, and you are getting bombarded with Terminal window pastes.

Can you pick a source that everyone has and post all of the settings from OSEx straight thru to FFMpeg. Let us then try to duplicate that and from there we can experiment ?

At this point, I'll go buy any source that you have that you have proven works with OSEx and FFMPeg just to get this thing right.

Last night I tried another movie and I wound up with an unsynched french version !

Or, if you would like, I would be happy to put together documentation for FFMPeg if you could share with me what you have so far. I have a background in online help so if you just dump raw text data to me, I'll put together instructions so that you aren't going crazy answering everyone's questions.

But I really think that the above request will settle it for everyone.

    What do you think ?

Most often I don't have sync issues, and there are many people not having issues.

The background is that the ffmpeg engine has problems in resampling ie changing the initial framerate and audio sampling rate. So you should set the same video framerate as the source and the same audio sampling rate as the source (normally 48000 for VOBs). It is true that there are some known exceptions, like VOBs which could have segments with changing framerates or something.

So do some trial & error. Try encoding a small segment and figure out how much % the audio is off sync. Determine from that which could be the correct framerate. Try to demux and compare the video and audio duration. Use quicktime player and not a dvd player to determine if there is a sync problem. Try to use a DivX source with 44.1 or 48 Khz audio sampling and see what happens.

I'm writing some documentation, I hope it will help, and will welcome any suggestions to improve it.

  3. Well, the big issue I have is not audio sync, (I go from 48KHZ Audio to 44.1KHZ without losing sync) but playability issues. I cannot convert NTSC Film to NTSC 29.97 without losing sync. Apparently my DVD player likes to wig out on NTSC Film XVCDs.
Slaughtering the competition with amatuer-quality VCD authoring abilities... fear my non-l33t skillz.

  4. Not all DVD players will handle that non-standard XSVCD format. Pioneer should handle it well for instance.

Try the VCD settings, does it work better?

Major, attached are the 3 different ways that I have tried to get the audio in sync with no luck. It is not in sync on my MAC or my Pioneer DV-343 DVD player. I am really stumped on this one. Also VLC hangs up every time it tries to play any of these and so does quicktime 5. I can't play these smoothly on my MAC but I can play them smoothly enough to notice that they are not synced.

What am I doing wrong ?

Just using the XSVCD Presents and not touching anything else

Yes, it is a different language. Major, I'm going crazy ! Do you have any DVD's that you know work where you can send me the exact settings and I will try the same ?

  9. It is not just a different language, it is also not 5:1 and different bitrate and sampling rate.

Set up an FTP site, so as I can download your clip and test it. Send me an email about that (major4@mac.com).
