  1. I know technically thet are the same thing, but my Pionner A-04 drive shows up as Pioneer 104 in the properties. Is that how it should be? I haven't updated or applied a firmware (yet).
    Dell Dimension 8200. Pentium 4 1.8GHz, 384Mb RDRAM, 64Mb nVidia GeForce3 Ti200, 180Gb (7200rpm), Turtle Beach Santa Cruze Sound, Harmon Kardon 695 SPK, 19" Trinitron Flat Screen Monitor, Pioneer A04 DVD-RW, 16x CD-RW, Win XP.

  2. One is the Retail version, one is the OEM version (sold to system builders with no box, software etc). Can't remember which is which. They are the same product, if it works, don't worry about it!

    Mine was a retail box. Device manager see its as a 104. NO worries. You have the right drive.

    I read some warnings on the pioneer website that the Pioneer 104 was being packaged in boxes and sold as thought it were the A04 for a tidy (and dishonest) profit.

    Make sure this didn't happen to you. If you really have the 104 and not the A04 you shouldn't have paid over $225-$250 for it.

    Got mine a while back for a good price with all the right software so frankly I dont care which one it is. It works and it had the right software. Oh well. Never saw that notice tho.
