  1. OK,

I already have a VCD here. But when you make a vcd of a avi you can choose the bitrate

Is there a way you can edit mpeg's and then save them?
    Size (resolution), fps, bitrate etc..

    Oh and another question:

With tmpgenc.. under the VIDEO tab and then framerate.. should i choose the framerate of the SOURCE (so the avi) or should i choose the framerate wich my TV plays (25)?

and how can you know if the scourse aspect ratio is made for tv (4:3 or 16:9) or for pc (1:1)?

What you are doing with TMPG is editing the bitrate, size, fps...ect....all this are changable.....But VCD is a standard..if you deviate from standard then its non-standard VCD...(not suported by all players, but then again neither is VCD)

That frame rate is what you want final copy to be...If your making VCD...it should always be 29.97.

There are 2 tabs (places) in TMPG that you set aspect ratio...one for source one for output....play with both...then under file select preview, and watch what it looks like...this is trial and error for me..till I get what I want it to look like.

If you use PAL then frame rate is 25. Only if you use NTSC the frame rate is 29.97.

  4. Or NTSCfilm is 23.976

Only the Yanks could complicate things so you have 2 (incompatible)framerates. We have a nice organised system where everything is 25fps, and we don't know the meaning of 3:2 pulldown and inverse telecine. Then again, our GPS system ain't too hot. 8)

It's called an analogy: (n) an agreement or correspondence in certain respects between things otherwise different.
    Quote Quote
  10. You have a funny idea of what an analogy is, just saying something (GPS)is crap, and relating this to a completely disconnected subject (incompatible US video framerates) is not an analogy.

An analogy is a type of word problem that often appears on standardized tests. It is made up of two word pairs, like this:

    GRACEFUL : CLUMSY :: late : _______
Your goal in solving an analogy is to find a word that correctly completes the second pair. At first glance the words in an analogy may seem to have nothing to do with each other, but the words are always logically related. Both pairs of words have the same kind of relationship. To solve the analogy you need to find that relationship. Read the analogy like this:

"Graceful is to clumsy as late is to 'blank.'"
Ask yourself: What is the relationship between graceful and clumsy? They are antonyms—words that have opposite meanings. The second pair of words must also be antonyms. Fill in the blank with a word that means the opposite of late, and you've solved the analogy. Early is the best answer.

Besides antonyms, the word pairs in an analogy could have one of these types of relationships:

synonyms, or words that have the same or similar meanings, as in WORK : LABOR

descriptive, in which one word describes the other word, as in BLUE : SKY

part to whole, in which one word is a part or piece of the other, as in ARM : BODY

item to category, in which one word names something that falls into the group named by the other word, as in MILK : BEVERAGE

    Here's another example:

    PUPPY : DOG :: kitten : _______
The analogy is read "Puppy is to dog as kitten is to 'blank.'" The first pair of words is not related in any of the ways listed above. Try reading the analogy as a sentence that expresses the relationships between the words: "A puppy is a young dog, like a kitten is a young . . ."? Cat is the best answer.

    Here ends the English lesson.

There is a correspondence in that we have a video system which is in many ways superior to the US , yet a GPS system which is not - since ours does not actually exist. The analogy was between 2 countries, each having something of excellence, yet in each case the object of excellence being completely different.

However, I don't think I need a lecture on English usage from someone lacking even the basic sense of humo(u)r plug-in.

  12. So if you were having a conversation with someone and they were telling you how thier car was playing up and it was really crap, and you replied with, yes so is my toaster. This would be an analogy because both items were crap?. You would get some very funny looks with replies going off in such an obscure tangent.

Which was my point, I did'nt see the connection between framerates and GPS. Just as there is no connection between cars and toasters, whether they be crap or not.

Oh by the way when I said here ends the English lesson it was said in jest, hence the smiley. So who's lacking the sense of humour?.

so.. when the source is 29.97 fps and I need to play it on a PAL tv i can choose 25fps there so it converts from 29.97 to 25?

(tho altough my tv is not ntsc i can play 29.97 fps)

You get animated about a flippant post intended to be amusing. You get even more animated pontificating about correct English usage, which you seem to have a shaky grasp of. Don't you think your time would be better spent helping with video problems, rather than trying to pick petty fights, which in any case you are unlikely to win?

  16. But if my dvd-player plays non-standard VCD (i believe thats XVCD then? it plays that) then I could edit the mpg preferences?

    Example:

    I download a VCD
    its 29.97 fps
    352x240
    1150 bitrate

and I want it to edit/convert so that its:

    25 fps
    352x288
    2600 bitrate

    and save it as XVCD
then how do i do that?

cause i can convert a avi to xvcd and choose the bitrate etc but I dont know how i can do that with an mpg

(oh and thnx for all the offtopic bullshit)

Whose getting animated, I just asked a simple question, what was the relevance of GPS. You said it was an analogy, I said it was'nt, simple as that. I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not the one being insulting here and picking a fight.

There isn't any relevance. It was a joke. But also an analogy. 8)

  21. When I thanked you guys for the offtopic bullshit in my previous post I guess you didnt notice the sarcasm cause now you think i'm thankfull for it you just go on with it.

And yes there is no relevance with GPS so because that one line wasnt relevant theres need for 100 lines more non-related bullshit?

I maybe new here.. but I have alot of experience with forums.. and usually theres a moderator.. here too or can everybody just have their own fights in a topic not theres?

Well, you sure know how to get people to want to help you.

  24. Well ofcourse i appreciate actual help.
But its not very decent to have a personal conflict hold here.
Makes it harder for other people to help me cause they have to search the on-topic text between the off-topic text.

    I hope you understand that..

to answer your question, yes you can convert your ntsc 29.97 VCD, but there is no point whatsoever. changing the resolution will make the picture -worse- because of interpolating pixels, changing the frame rate will -really- spoil the motion, and changing the bitrate is totally pointless, as you can't make up extra information to fill the extra 1.5 megabits of bandwidth! on top of that any type of re-encode generates artifacts!!

  27. K, thats what i wanted to hear (well actually i anted to hear that it could and that it would make it waaaay better but still.. )

Too bad then.. ah well VCD is already good quality.. just wanted to try if it could be better cause sadly my dvdplayer doesnt play SVCD..

    thnx!

And one last thing: Analogy is a Hellenic (Greek) word. The correct form of the word is "ANALOGIA" and basicly means "keep the equal distance between 2 or more values if one or all change".
    For example: 1 apple 2 oranges. 2 aples 4 oranges. 15 apples 30 oranges...

Also, this word is usued when we ask the discription of a mixed of complicated thing:

"Which is the analogy of H and O in chemistry to create water?"

Another form of the word Analogy, is the word "ANALOGA" which means "It depents".
There are some other meanings of the word analogy, also. I have to write a dictionary to express them all.

*Analogy* is an English word derived from the Greek word *analogia*. The modern usage of a word is frequently different to the word it was derived from.

Maybe I should have used *juxtaposition*? Then you could look up your Latin.

I don't know any Latin. Only Hellinics (Greeks)

The word analogy is used with it original meaning in the english language.

For example: Which is the analogy of the Bitrate for Video and Audio on VCD mpeg 1 files? I know that the total is 1374kb per second.

The analogy is: 1150kb/s for Video and 224kb/s for audio

Here we use the word "analogy" in its original Hellenic (Greek) form

1 of 3 english words, have a Greek root. Sometimes the english root come from Latins (Latins adapt many Greek words), French and German words, which had already adapt Greek words! A new scientific project made by Americans/British and Greeks, say that the active Greek words in the english language are more than 40.000!!!! Many times the english language use a typical english one for mainstream use and a Hellenic (greek) one for advance use. For example: We say desert to descripe the desert, but we say "Erimology" (which comes from the world ERIMOLOGIA) to describe things happen in Deserts in generall from a scientific point.
