Hey, this is basically the history behind these files.

They were originally downloaded as mkv files. My PS3 cannot play mkv files, and I read online that m2ts and mkv were basically the same thing so quality would not be lost, so I converted the files to m2ts.

Now, the files are about 350-450 kbps, and about 100 MB each.

The quality is great, regardless of the low bitrate
but I notice pixelation every now and then, and im wondering if I can possibly improve the quality, or is there nothing I can do and thats just the way the file was downloaded? Are rips usually just lower quality than the original video?

What about bluray? can i convert m2ts files to bluray, and have a higher quality file?
Sorry about this, i just dont understand how any of this works lol

thanks a lot to anyone who helps.

Then the quality isn't so great.

Maybe. How did you convert from MKV to M2TS? Did you simply remux or did you recompress? A simple remux would have left you with exactly the same quality as the source. But this requires that the source codecs be codecs that work in M2TS and will play on your player. If you had to reencoded and the MKV source doesn't have the same macroblocking then you can reencode again (from the MKV source) with a higher bitrate. If the source has the macroblocking you can try using deblocking filters. That might help. But, at best, it replaces the blocks with smooth blurs.

That you download off the net? Yes. If your doing your own rips you decide on the quality.

You can convert M2TS to blu-ray but the quality won't be any better -- aside from the aforementioned deblocking.

Use mkv2vob or multiavchd instead of reconverting the mkvs.

I used mk2vob to remux the files into an M2TS file. the video codec is h.264.

how can i use deblocking and macroblocking?
