It seems as if there is a lot of conflicting information about creating VCD's and SVCD's with the WINTV-PVR 250. According to the instructions that came with the card, to burn a VCD I must capture, edit with the WINTV-PVR editor, and only then it is burnable. But I found that I could simply capture to VCD and burn with Nero with no problems (and Nero doesn't complain or have to re-encode), it plays just fine on my stand alone player (Apex AD-1200).

SVCD seems a bit more confusing. According to the instructions I basically do the same thing, but I found that Nero complains about the MPEG-2/SVCD not being compatible. And when I use DVD Moviefactory I can burn the captured file directly (using the SVCD SP capture mode), but the disc is all blocky/choppy when I play back on a stand alone player.

I also tried taking the 'SVCD SP' captured file and 'remuxing for SVCD' with the WinTV-PVR editor, but the output file is smaller/shorter and the burned disc has an audio/video sync problem.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do this (am I missing a step). Also, is the VCD method I'm using ok? Even though VCD's play fine in my player, I want to be sure I'm making a compliant VCD that is compatible with all players.

Thanks!
