  1. I'm thinking about buying a panasonic dmr-e30 to record movies and shows off of tv. I have the panasonic dvd-ram drive that writes to ram and dvd-r. Can I record onto a dvd-ram disc and put it in my computer edit out commericals or anything else I might want to and then burn it to a dvd-r? If yes what do I need? Does it take alot of time? I read one post that said it took them 6 to 8 hour to rip a dvd that is too much time.

  2. Well hmmmm. When you record the movie using the dmr-e30, I am assuming it creates a compliant dvd (vob files etc). So, you could put it in your computer. Then, you would have to either edit the vobs directly (possible?), or convert it to another format (.avi or mpeg). Then edit out the commercials. Then re-encode. Then author/burn.

It would take a LONG time in CPU time, and also in editing time.

Do what I did. Get a Dazzle DVCII. Capture directly to MPEG2 hardware based real-time onto youre HDD in your computer. Edit the MPEG2. Author it and burn it using dvd-r.

1:1 record time, little while to edit/re-encode, 1.5 hrs to author/burn using ulead.
