hi all,
when i launch my PC i can view Quicktime movies without any trouble, but after a while - i seem to have a problem whenever launching quicktime 5 pro. it seems to appear as a "ghosted" player. meaning the GUI appears transparent. i can still click on the menu etc, but the words are very faint.
and it won't play the movies which i double-clicked used to view.
i tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but to no avail. the only work around is to reboot the PC system which i think is kinda silly.
i have also tried to do a search in this forum, but no luck ... either that or my searching was incorrect.
would appreciate it if someone could help in this field.

I can play video trailers with the quicktime player without any problem on my WinXp computer.
It sounds though your computer is causing the problem with the operating system. Does your computer get overloaded when playing videos? What is your WinXp settings regarding performance? Are you running too many hidden things inside the computer, slowing it down. Does your computer have enough specs to run the OS and the video.
The questions above could be part of the reasons for your problem using WinXp.
My WinXp computer did have a problem with performance and slowness. I noticed this morning when playing a Q-time video and using the Internet at the same time effecting the video, it just slows and paused for a minute.
I was trying to open an e-mail application when the problem occurred. I realized that is best for me to do one thing at a time with my low RAM speed. My RAM at 128MB isn't enough for performance, I noticed this before, the RAM is best to be at 256 MB using WinXp.
The best you can do is to improve performance, is to check your settings for visual effects: click my computer, then select properties, select advanced, then click settings in performance. For visual effects, have you got everything ticked? If so, you can untick them all for improved preformance. I only ticked the second last one, for icon labels on the desktop.
Another way to check is to go into start, then select Help and Support, the "Help and Support" loads, then click "adjust your start up resources to improve performance". In there will show you how many applications are running without you knowing about it. Office applications running updates at start up all the time is an example.
If you see applications and any programs running unnecessarily, you can untick them. Not all of them though, for example your anti-virus program must run for your computer's protection.
I don't know what your computer is like, however these options maybe a help to you. You might want upgrade your hardware, such as to increase the RAM and a new mainboard for P4 processor. A faster computer will fix everything. -
CJGS thanks for ur reply. unfortunately i dun think it has to do with PC performance.
my rig's an AMD 1600XP 512MB machine, i am also a minimalist so one of the few things i disabled were all the visual effect settings (im using the old-skool windows theme rather than the cute bubble-gum theme)
Previously i was able to launch quicktime movies / trailers etc without a hitch, but now i can launch QT movies (initially after a system boot) but the ability to launch QT movies fail after the PC has been turned on for some time. I find it very strange that this could occur... i highly suspect its display driver issue - but using the latest reference drivers from nVidia were no help. i suspect a format's the way to go
BTW the QT version in question is QT 5 Pro.
