  1. I have some serious problems which are caused by the Pinnacle Studio Deluxe card.

    Okay here it goes:
I've asked this question to two guys at Pinnacle. They didn't have an answer for me and suggested I posted this message.

Ever since I bought the Studio Deluxe my computer is behaving strangely. The HFX software is very unpredictable, it causes my compter to freeze. Indeed capturing smaller clips prevents this to happen. I can live with this.

But what's really really really annoying is that other software which I use to convert downloaded movies in divx into MPG2 isn't functioning anymore.
I've always used TMPGenc for the job. But it makes my computer freeze..... Upgrading to the latest version of TMPGenc didn't work. So I decided to give another decoder a chance. Unfortunaltely this didn't help. My computer kept freezing.

Desperate as I was, I decided to build a dual boot system with Windows 2000 and XP. 2000 didn't have the AV/DV drivers installed, XP did. I was very surprised to see that in 2000 TMPGenc caused my computer to freeze again.........

Next I decided starting my computer in windows safe mode. In the beginning this did the trick. I was able to convbert AVI's into MPG. But after a while my computer refused and started to freeze again.

I also want to convert captured AVI's with TMPGenc because it's much better than the build in decoder from Pinnacle. But up to this moment and near to insanity I can't.

Does anybody out there have similar problems or even better, does anybody have a solution. Pinnacle can't help me maybe you guys can....

Thanks a lot for reading this posting and I hope a solution is at hand.

  2. Roy,

sounds like a pain and could be a hardware problem.

This is what I would do in your position.

    1) Take out the card and try it in another machine. If it still falls over
return the card or investigate further.

    2) If it works in the other machine, start looking at things like
bios settings, pci slot position, trying a vanilla o/s, jumpers
on mainboard, memory, replace mainboard to test etc. etc.

    luck.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

Another computer??? Before I mounted the pinnacle card everything, including TMPGenc worked fine. Conversion worked great. Problems started when I bought the card.

Do you have any tips om BIOS settings because I think it's too late to return the card tot the shop where I bought it. I've been experimenting for over a month now.
