  1. When burning a downloaded film with a less than fantastic quality (400m for the whole film) is it worth coverting to svcd and have the file over 4 discs?

Thanks in advance for any help/opinions.

Unless the source quality is very good you are unlikely to see any advantage by going to SVCD. However, SVCD will give 50-60 minutes/CD, so you are very unlikely ever to need 4 CDs.

  3. Thanks, but I thought that you could only get 35 mins on svcd!

Maybe if you use constant bitrate. It makes sense to use variable bitrate which is in the specification of SVCD. This will give 50-60 minutes per 80 minute CD with quality equalling 35 minutes of CBR encoding. Many of the bits used are wasted using CBR.
