My sony DVP-NS500V is a dvd/vcd/cd combo player. Every time i try to play a vcd in it, it either refuses the disc and says "DISC DIRTY", or says "NO DISC". Now this is confusing because these exact same vcd's work on a majority of other players. With one exception one disc, using the exact same settings and procedure to create it does work???? I rip the sound with virtualdub, encode with tmpgenc, and have tried burning with both nero and virtualdub. Both of which yield no results. This is a pain in my side since i can no longer return the player, and bought it mostly to watch my vcd's. Can anybody give any feedback?? Somebody who might have the same player or solutions to the problem???? Thanks in advance.

I have a Sony s560d,not the same model I know, but I have found that cd-rws work and cd-rs do not on my Sony.Do you use cd-rs? I have used Memorex 700mb/80mins cd-rw and TDK 74min/650mb cd-rw with success.Good luck!

Try the compatibility list for dvds on the left and maybe you can find your solutions with someone that has/had the same problem.

I own a Sony DVP-NS500V and it plays VCD's and SVCD's without any problems. I use TDK media.
What r u trying to play?..... -
Everything, movies, sitcoms etc.... I always get either "13:00 Disc is dirty" or "Please insert disc" then i'll try it on other dvd players and it works fine. I've used different types of cd-r's, mostly memorex and sony. Any ideas, i've noticed others complaining about the same problem in the reviews section.

I had that problem once but I think it had to do with the way I was burning the CD. I'll try to remember ......
This is what I do to create SVCD's:
Capture with iuVCR (Great software BTW) using PIC Mpeg....then I do some editing with Premiere and end up encoding with TMPGEnc....finally I burn my CD with Nero. I had used TDK CD-R media for the final SVCD's and Iomega or TDK CD-RW's for tests. They both work great.
Make sure that you are not using a bitrate that the player can't support. If you are new to this, stick to the original templates and start working from there. For SVCD's I use 2500 kb/s .....If I go over 2600 I will get @#%$....
I have done so far 3 SVCD's and they all look pretty good in a 36" Sony Wega TV. -

I have a sony dvp-ns500v and i had this problem when i used vcdeasy. Use nero or ulead dvd movie factory. My player has no problem playing any type of cd-r(w) or dvd-r(w)

horsecrap, buy Princo brand CD-R's from Circuit City, such as Digital Media or generic Circuit City cd's, they're real cheap, 200 for $35.00. If you're still getting dirty disc errors go out and buy the Maxell DVD Lens Cleaner. I've never used a lens cleaner before and was quite skeptical but this thing worked wonders. later
