  1. Okk... ive tried something and I thought it would work, but only one vob works... I`ve ripped a whole dvd and I basically want to re-encode the movie ONLY so I can get all the menu and extras back onto a DVD-5. Obviously you get the 4 1gig vobs and usually a 5th smaller vob of the movie when ripped.. I managed to demux the AC3 sound from all the vobs no problem, I went to demux video file out of vob1 no problem, and re-encoded that to a lower bit rate then remuxed the m2v and ac3 back into the VOB_1 again, but for some reason I can`t get the video demuxed out of the other 4 vob files!!!,, this seems to happen with any DVD that I rip... Does anyone know why this doesn`t work????? I use DVD2AVI to rip the AC3 sound file, and ReMPEG to convert.. then TMPGenc to remux the m2v and ac3 files back to the VOB

If anyone can help out that`ll be great
    Thanks

I haven't had much luck with rempeg (its really slow too.) What I would do is demux the audio with DVD2AVI and save the project. I would then reencode in TMPEG (by loading the d2v project file.) You'll get the entire video stream that way for sure.

  3. thanks for the reply Lancesteel... and yep,, your right... TMPGenc seems to work better, managed to keep the same aspect ration of 2:35:1 while using the d2v file too!!!! yipeee,,, looks like this is gonna work great

  4. i have a question for you dtsking. If you do this you should end up with all the same contents except for the five vobs will be smaller since you rencoded them. Correct so far? Then will you just burn the videots folder back to dvdr? Will this work? If it does will you let me know because on my back ups i have just reencoded the video gotten rid of everything else and then recreated a menu and reauthored the dvd. If this works it would be great. Thanks for the info.

  6. Question for LanceSteel

When i try to load the d2v file into TMPEG after using dvd2avi it does not reconise the format. do i need some plug in or am i using dvd2avi incorrectly?

  7. VFAPI Plug for either TMPGenc or DVDaAVI not installed correctly would be my guess. They both need to be present for TMPGenc to make use of that file.

I download both again looked for all versions of VFAPI that i could find and installed. but still the same error, unsupported format in tmpeg

  9. increase the priority for directshow under advanced VFAPI in tmpgenc

  11. This may sound simplistic but did you run vifpset.bat after you downloaded and unzipped VFAPI? The reason I'm asking about the obvious is that I just downloaded it again to put it on another computer, and TMPGEnc wouldnt recognise the avi, then I realized I didnt set up VFAPI correctly.

Indeed the VAFPI thing was what has been causing me so much grief over the last few weeks... now that its installed I'm smooth sailing again.

On a side note I thought you could use vobedit to rip the video out reencode it then put it back in.... am i wrong?

Rempeg will transcode directly from the vob,no need to strip. Then use IFOEDIT to remux the rempeg .m2v back into the vob. I do it when creating miniDVD.
