  1. I am getting this error when attempting to encode an avi to mpeg1. It happens at the same spot, 58%. Using TMPG. Any tips to avoid this error would be appreciated.

  2. i got that problem too, download the latest version of TMPGENC and try it again, if you already have the latest version, get rid of it, and download it again.

    Silly but works

  3. Hey there, I appreciate the tip, but no dice. Encode failed at the same spot with the same error. I am using 12i of TMPG. I am going to try going back to a prior version to see if I have any luck. Thanks for the reply

  4. This is weird. I'm using the latest version too, capturing mpeg files from my ATI card at 3.75mbit/sec, then coverting to VCD with it. It was working fine the first few times I used it. I then tried to open a .wmv file in it, to convert, and it crashed the program. Now, whenever I try and open up an mpeg file, it gives me the "Illegal Floating" error too.

  5. Had the same problem with 12g but 12i seem to be working fine for me. This is how I solved the problem in 12g: go to Option -> Environmental settion -> CPU and check off Enable MMX. Now go to Setting (bottom right) -> Quantize matrix and make sure that Use floating point DCT is not checked. I don't think it slows down encoding by too much if any, but it's better than having TMPGEnc crashing.

  6. Ok, well I unchecked MMX but the enabling of the floating decimal point was already unchecked...so we'll see if the MMX thing does it. Trying again tonight with 12i....Cross your fingers

I had the same problem with all versions (not every file though, just some avi's) and i found out it was the audio that it didn't like for whatever reason, so i used toolame to do the audio (took a little longer, like 20min)but it worked just fine after that.

BTW..go to options>enviromental settings>external tool, and check layer II to wherever you have the toolame program. sorry i don't remember where i got toolame, but you can find a link off the main website

    hope it helps
