    You need:

    --- From your SVHS: ----
Your tapes to be SVHS (not simply VHS)
The programs be written on SP mode (not LP)
TBC (time base corrector) on your VCR during the playback
S-Video Connection (it is possible with good quality simply RCA cables also, but only with the use of some filters)
    RF-Stopper (to minimize the noise)

    ---From Virtual dub Capturing----
RGB Filtering (Don't know why, but helps in generall, even if you don't use RGB!)
    Noise Reduction
Use Huffyuv or PIC Video mjpeg at least 18 value

    ---From Virtual dub Proccess----
What to say here.... You need a couple of filters sometimes. You must try a lot to find what is suitable for you...
Many people make miracles with the use of those filters...

    ---The encoding proccess--
Always use at least 2 Pass VBR and Interlace output
I suggest CVD resolution and 1200 minimum/2400 average/2520 maximum if you want to be in the standards. Personally, I use much higher maximum (3500kb/s) to succeed.
Some people use some fiters with TMPGenc also. Most of the times this noise redaction and ghost reduction ones...

    Generall Rules:
    Never de-interlace
Use sharpen edge filter on TMPGenc
    Use RF stoppers!
    Never grabb beyond you need!

The analogue grabbing ain't that easy as the DVD ripping!

I just got great results using dvd2svcd but doing the following. Capture at 720x576 then downsize with bicubic to 352x576. The results are excellent. Only one problem, the filkesize at that res is too great for my HD.

Any way picture isnt my problem its the audio. The buzzing in it is horible. I downloaded some audio filter proggies, Lets hope they ehlp.,

    Please note this:

if your source is SVHS, then there is no point in capturing at 720x576. The SVHS resolution is not more than SVCD quality ( a bit less than: 480x576.)

Try capturing at 480x576. This will probably decrease the filesize and you should not loose quality, as SVCD resolution is already higher that SVHS.

(and...if you are using an SVHS cable to capture, then the resolution transported to your PC, is never higher than SVHS resolution. In that case, you are just upsizing during the capture)

    Best regards,
    The Dutchman
