I'm looking into buying a DVD burner but with so many formats out there, I'd like to know whats the best format to buy? A DVD-R/DVD-RW or DVD+RW I'm really confused here.

Go with the DVD-R. It will play in most stand-alone players!

So here is some info on the subject for ya.

Currently the only option of the 2 is DVD-R/RW, the
DVD+RW drives are not yet available. They should come
    out this fall sometime.

DVD+RW hold a serious advantage... The reflection factor
for the DVD+RW drives is the same as a dual layer production
DVD, so it will read in ANY DVD PLAYER. The DVD-R disks
only read in a subset of drives.

I'm holding off myself until the DVD+RW drives come out and
I am hoping that they will be priced for consumers. ie not
5000$ US for a drive. If they come out at an unreasonable
    price point, I'll get a DVD-R drive.

    does that help at all?
