  1. Some of the DivX movies I've gotten have played perfectly fine in Media Player, but when I go to convert them to mpeg2 to make SVCD's I lose the sound. This only happens on certain files, most convert perfectly. Another odd thing that happens sometimes on these same files, sometimes on files that don't lose sound, is that the resulting mpeg2 plays UPSIDE DOWN in media player and in the mpeg tools viewer, but when burnt to a SVCD, it plays fine ( the image is right side up) in the DVD player. I've tried pre-converting with Virtual Dub -that solves a lot of other problems, but not for these files. Any suggestions?

    There are never the same problems when converting, some files need additional work others don’t.

    The Original AVI should be scanned for junk frames using Vdub, in fact by saving out a copy using Video direct stream copy and Audio direct stream copy, sometimes cures the sound problem which TMPGENC has problems with.

    Sometimes you need to save the sound out in Vdub;

    Audio > full processing mode
    Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

    Other times you may have AC3 audio which you need to convert after you saved it in Vdub using Audio > direct stream copy

    Upside-down movies can be cause by installing components with the Nimo codec pack, which need to have their settings changed, sometimes the DirectShow plug-ins in TMPGENC need changing. Sometimes the SMR codec (Angel Portion) also gives this problem (Un-install it)

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
    right click the "DirectDraw" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
