  1. I am trying to convert my avi's to svcd using Nero. Everytime I try this, it will start the encoding and then at any given time it will stop telling me that there was an error encoding the avi. I have installed the MGEG1/SVCD encoder plugin. If anyone knows what might be causing the error..........PLEASE let me know. Thx, NGNOUS

  2. Your first problems is trying to use NERO for encoding.....on word DON'T....while NERO is one of the best burning Software products, it sucks when it comes to encoding....try TMPGEnc...works everytime, of course you will run into the 30 day restrictions......but look around and you may find the way around that......

  4. Hi!

I had the same probelm as ngnous, Nero just wouldn't encode the avi even though it seemed to be a perfectly ok avi file. (I got some kind of ".....20 out of 20 buffers used, buffer underrun....." in the log file)

But I also had some problems when it came to cutting the file due to VBR audio. Virtualdub wouldn't recognize the VBR bitstrem blabla, making the audio go out of sync, so I saved the audio as an uncompressed wav and re-encoded it to CBR with dBpowerAMP. I used the new wav file as audio file and made a new avi file. This file could then be encoded by Nero.

I don't know if there is a restriction in Nero when i comes to encode VBR audio, but changing it to CBR worked for me .... Maybe someone else can verify this?

The best advice has already been given. Don't use Nero for encoding. It's a great burner, but not a great encoder. It will give OK results sometimes with bog-standard material.
