  1. I have many files burned to VCD and played fine until my old Apex 600 went up in smoke. I just purchased an Apex 1200 and found out (from this site) when they have taped over specs on the box you've been had. Mine does not play VCD but only SVCD. Is there any way to convert my VCDs to SVCD?

  2. Yes. First copy avseq.dat to your harddrive and rename it to anyname.mpg. Use TMPGEnc to load SVCD template and load your mpg file. Now wait. It wont be a very good svcd. 352 x 288 to 480 x 576. But it will be better than VCD. Make sure to use a higher bitrate than 1150 for better quality.

  3. Actually, because the res is changing, it will look worse in SVCD then in VCD, but if you can actually tell, you're superhuman. And there really isn't a need to increase beyond 1150 since that's what the original VCD was. Maybe to 1500 or so to cover the extra screen size, but then you won't be able to fit the full VCD onto the SVCD (assuming it's a full VCD)

DON'T RE-ENCODE!!! Re-encoding will always give you worse quality.

    Burn as SVCD instead:

    1) Convert the .dat to .mpg with VCDGear
    2) Demultiplex the mpg with TMPGEnc
    3) Remux as SVCD with bbmpg (will actually generate an XSVCD, as the resolution is still VCD Resolution)
    4) Burn as SVCD with Nero / VCDEasy (Uncheck "standard compliant" in Nero / mpg checks in VCDEasy)

Try fist with CDRW to see if this works, should work with most of the players.
