  1. I just used TMPG to convert a AVI file to SVCD format. I followed the instructions from this site to guide me. The resulting output file was 760mb, and approx. 53 minutes. I then burned it to a 80min CD-R with VCDEasy. Everything appeared normal and I put it in my APex 3201 DVD player and it looked pretty good. It stopped playing after about 38 minutes. I reloaded it and tried again and the DVD player still shows the movies length as 38:49. I played the SVCD in my computers DVD player and it played the enitre length of 54 minutes. What might be the problem here? Could it be an issue with my DVD player? By the way, I l also burned it with the latest version of nero with identical results. Any help would be great.

  2. I have had a similar problem with a couple of SVCD I have burnt. I think it is a problem with the meida or burning process.

I noted the time that it stopped (ie 32 mins into the film) and then used the DVD player menu to jump to 32 mins and 10 seconds and the film carried on playing just fine. It seems to be all there but there must be some small glitch at that point.

I also have noticed that windvd with play the whole film with out the problem, its just my DVD player that seems to do it.

Try burning the film again at a slower speed.

  3. I figured it out finally after playing the disc on a friend's DVD player. Apparently the time counter on my player isn't accurate. The full 53 minutes were playing the whole time.

  4. Just for the record, which particular software DVD player and version number had an inaccurate elapsed time?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  5. No, the software DVD player displayed the elapsed time correctly, it was my stand alone Apex player the didn't. Kinda strange, but I guess it doesn't matter as long as it plays.
