    Hi there,
Not quite sure where to post, but this is for newbies so hopefully I'm posting in the right place.

I'm doing some research transcribing videos of students who are learning English as a second language, and I have found that one of my mpg video files is missing sound.

When I play it using media player classic the little volume icon in the bottom right has a cross next to it and absolutely no sound comes from it. I've tried other media players - windows mp, winamp, with the same result: picture but no sound. I even tried importing it into windows movie maker, but that could not find an audio file.

When I check the file using G-spot it tells me this:

    Filter: AC3
    0xbd[0x80]:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)

I have AC3 installed and these settings are exactly the same as the other mpg files whose audio I can play.

Its quite important because it means I have missing data from my study, so I'd be grateful to anybody who can resurrect the audio on this file.

Thanks for any help you can give

    David

Thanks for you help, but actually I solved the problem.

It was simply some missing codec, which was included in this pack: http://yatoshi.com/en/index.php?p=decoder

Its a bit weird because all the other videos were done at the same time, and I had no problems playing them.

    Still, I'm a little embarrassed!

  4. I had similar problems with mp3 when the avi used was DivX 3. I find usually it is a codec problem/vbr issue, so demuxing the sound and recoding it again to cbr, then muxing back in solves the playback issue for me.
