AVI w/ sub -> SVCD

Hi everyone, I just recently began to convert my AVI(divx) to (S)VCD to watch on the DVD player. I've had little to no problems until now.

My problem is that I regularly enjoy foreign films, I usually watch these with external subtitle files on my harddrive. Have any of you had experience in imbedding these somehow within the SVCD so that they will show on a standalone player?

I use vdub to extract the audio and TMPGEnc to convert.
