Wanting to know if there is a way to capture video without the file being like 28 gig i am not using a dedicated capture card but instead creatives audigy sound card with firewire. Maybe the file could be a little smaller?

LOL...........I'm not a chick but some of them would say Yes.
Anyhow, a basic rule is the purer the source, the better your final product. So if you are able to capture a larger resolution, less compressed file, it should obviously give you a much better end result.
If space is an issue, I'd compare the cost of a hardware Mpeg Encoder (Dazzle, etc) to the cost of a bigger drive. The drive's probably cheaper.
Rule = CICO Crap In Crap Out~~~Spidey~~~

If you are using firewire, then I assume you are using DV, right? If so, there is no option for size as the frame and data rate are spec'ed by DV.
