  1. I re-encode a mpeg-2 file using 2-pass VBR and I set a minimum bitrate. But after re-encoding, I analyze the file with Bitrate viewer, the bitrate dips way below the minimum for long periods of time. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks,

Have you ticked "Enable padding not to be lower than minimum bitrate"?

  3. Yes, that option is ticked. This is frustratng because I'm just trying to re-encode an mpeg2 file with GOP sequence errors to another file of equal quality. The errors get fixed but the quality of the video isn't as good. I expected some degridation but this is very noticable. In TMPGEnc I set it up with 2 pass VBR, max of 2520 and min of 2250 with and average of 2450, but in bitrate viewer it comes out like max of 2300, minimum of 1300 with an average of 1900. I must be doing something wrong.

    Thanks again,
