  1. I have been converting to vcd just fine but all of a sudden tmpg is locking up my computer. I can't tell if it's happening after a certain amount of time or if it just random. I may get the entire first half of a movie and it locks up 6 times on the second half. No error messages and the whole computer is locked hard.
    my specs p3 1000
    384 ram
Using vdub and the latest version of tmpg
    I have tried different versions.
    Memory leak?
Any advice or steps to follow to find the problem?
    Thank you in advance

  2. Do you have a utility to measure the CPU temperature; a BIOS utility or some other method?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. No I don't however heat should not be a problem. I can run multiple programs all night with no problem it's only when I"m running tmpg and am converting that I lock up.

Could be a bad DivX codec, or a bad DivX file (try fixing errors with a Divx repair program, or divx antifreeze). What OS you using?

  5. sorry I'm using xp. I have tried various versions of tmpg but will download
divx again and give that a try. This is happening on all movies now not just a few. I probably converted 50 or more with no problems at all before this started happening.
    Thanks

    Kerzon . . .

Something else you can try when you're running the programs is the "compatibility" tag in each of the program's "properties" area. Try selecting the windows 2000 option, and see if that helps.

Also, remove any other codec or video program that you might have loaded up to try but no longer need - getting rid of old stuff always helps!

I use the same programs on my box, and don't have nay probs at all . . .

  8. I had the same problem of locking up after it had been great for a while. Nothing worked until I increased Tmpgenc's priority to the highest & now no more problems.

    Good Luck.

Find the "tmpgenc.exe" file on your local hard drive. When you right-click your mouse on the file name and select "properties", you should see a "compatibility" tag in the dialog box that comes up.

The first part of the compatibility dialog contains a drop-down menu that has different versions of windows you can select to help with any compatibility issues - select "Windows 2000", and then clcik on the "apply" button

Hope this helps - if not, let me know

  10. Thanks for your help. I tried the win2000 cpmpatability with same results.
I've tried increasing priority, upping direct show ect ect. Even though I'm having no problems in anything else it must be something on my sytem.
Guess I'll try a repair of xp.
Thanks to all and I'm open to any other ideas.
