  1. Reasonably happy with the player, (there are some issues with occasional locking up and other crashing glitches) but the biggest problem is the locking of regions for all my UK bought titles (thousands of pounds!).

I WILL NOT BUY THEM ALL AGAIN... I dont believe in bit torrenting free files, but honestly, they almost force you to that position..

I understand there is the hack for the unit in the UK using the One for all multi remote, but this is a USA unit.

How can I play my DVDs and Blu Rays on this?

Its either it works, or its replaced and sold for a region unlocked player...

  2. If you want a region-free player, exchange it for something else. Look at DVD Players and DVD Hacks over <-- there and see if you can find something suitable. Someone may suggest a hackable player. Very few Sonys can be made region-free.

It would help if you told us where you are. If in Canada, for example, there's the Seiki player at Wal-Mart Canada reported to be region-free or perhaps hackable, I'd have to refresh my memory...

Mind you, if you get a Blu-Ray player, some are hackable for DVD region-free, but almost none for Blu-ray. Although perhaps half of Blu-Ray movie releases are region-free anyway.

How can you play your DVDs and Blu-Rays on that unit? Make region-free backups, which can be done with free tools. Perhaps not a sensible solution though if your collection is extensive.

    Welcome to the forum.

[EDIT] I can't vouch for it, but supposedly the Seiki can be unlocked for both DVD *and* Blu-Ray. Actually to be precise, the Blu-Ray region can be changed, but region-free is not an option. DVD region can be fully unlocked. Assuming the player is still available.

Too bad you didn't do your research BEFORE you bought anything.

I've said this so many times I've lost count, but I'll repeat it - If you want region free playback for DVD and/or BluRay the DO NOT buy Sony or Samsung!

Most DVD/BluRay players sold in the USA can't be unlocked.

Despite their official denials, Philips still sells DVD players in the USA that can be unlocked for all region play. I just bought the DVP3560 about a month ago and the unlock listed here for Feb. 2011 still works.

However, DO NOT upgrade the firmware, ever, on a Philips DVD or BluRay player after you have unlocked it or the firmware upgrade may permanently re-lock the player.
