  1. I use Vegas Video 3 to capture from my firewire Digital8 camcorder at 720x480. (NTSC DVD). Edit the AVI and crunch with TMPGEnc and author with SpruceUp. (Gonna give CCE SP a shot tonight). My question....I recently took some of my home made movies to my friends house who has a rectangular type Sony HDTV and noticed that the picture didn't look as sharp as it does on my 25" RCA TV in my basement. (My RCA is a POS and sucks compared to his Sony HDTV). I don't know if I should blame my DVDs..... his HDTV....(I also noticed that while watching normal TV, the picture wasn't crystal clear anyways.....he has a PS2, PS and some WinTV PVR all going through his entertainment system. Maybe this explains the poor quality?) In the future, I plan on getting an HDTV myself but I'm a little worried now. Is it a fact of life that home made movies are gonna suck on huge TVs?

You must remember that Digital8 tapes are actually analogue format hence they suck. The other thing is that HDTV is almost double the resolution of normal television ergo everything is magnified twice so if it looks ok on your normal tv it will look crappy on HDTV. If you want good home piccys my advice is get a good DIGITAL camera. [/quote]

So there's no way for my tapes to look PERFECT on HDTV eh? This just a fact of life everyone lives with or could I do something better? Like maybe capture with a miniDV camcorder!?! Or since miniDV uses tapes as well, same prob?

Excuse my noobness in this area..........

no actually miniDV is a digital tape and therefore is close to a broadcast standard so if you are using miniDV you should get very good piccys.
