Did any of you guys rip and burn Black Hawk Down on 1 DVD-R with IfoEdit. Is it possible to put it one 1 DVD with just the movie. If so let me know. thanks

No you can't get it on 1 disc without reducing quality. I am trying to split it as we speak but i had problems once before using Derrow's guide. if you find a guide to split it that works please let me know.

I have managed to squeeze Harry Potter into one DVD with 5.1. The quality rocks so I'm hoping to repeat my success with Black Hawk Down. I using TMPGEnc with 2 Pass VBR. I'll let you know how it turns out.

If you transcode the VOB to reduce the size, then you can fit in one DVD-R. You can also use Ifoedit's Tmpgen friendly direct convertion and encode with Tmpgen 2.55. I just got DVD-9 for $2.50 each at www.cdrecordable.com and just did DVD to DVD-R copy direct with Nero. The hell with ripping,stripping,encoding and burning . That took entire weekend. Gezzzzz...

No one sells dual layered (DVD-9) DVDs. What you purchased was a dual sided DVD. The difference is that dual layered can store 9.4 GB on a single side while dual sided can hold 4.7GB per side. I don't see how you could have created a 1 to 1 DVD copy. Please elaborate....

dmonty, how did you get harry potter onto 1 DVD-R. What are the steps that you used? I have Cinema Craft Encoder if that would be easier than TMPEnc. Just a few quick instructions would be great.

1: rip the dvd with smartripper or other ripper program (just the movie vobs are required)
2: Use dvd2avi selecting demux dolby digital in the audio settings this will produce a d2v file and an ac3 file.
3: run the d2v file through VFAPI Reader to produce a fake avi that can be used with CCE.
4: open the avi file produced by VFAPI Reader with CCE and select the required bitrate (use one of the bitrate calculators to get the required bitrate)
5: rename the ac3 file and the newly encoded CCE file with the same name.
6: Follow the tutorial for Spruceup on this site to author and burn the DVDR.

Sounds great but can u go the extra-mile? What is the TMPGEnc w/2 Pass VBR doing? Converting/shrinking something? Where can someone get the 2 Pass VBR - I assume this is an addon for TMPGEnc?

Its not a plugin. Its an option located under "Setting -> Rate Control Mode". As for your "what is it/what does it do?" question....

2pass Variable Bitrate(VBR): This means that your bitrate has an minimum, maximum, and average bitrate. On this one you can set the average to a fixed setting and have it either raise to the maximum you set during high motion scenes or fall to the minimum you set when there is little motion. This setting is good for figuring out the size of the file that is being outputted and to have it reach higher bitrates yet still maintaining a lower file size. under the settings of this setting is where
you would put in everything you need to. There is also a setting, "Enable padding When falling below the minimum bitrate", if checked. forces the rate of the movie not to fall under the minimum bitrate you entered. Also this setting will go over the whole movie first then at 50% it will start to encode it, and this takes time...Allot of time! Why would anyone do this you ask. Well I do this because I know approx. what the file size will be and I feel that I will get the most out of my movie. This is for MPEG-2.

So you are saying that you can take your "ripped" oversized (>4.7GB) .m2v load it into TMPEnc to shrink it? Then load the shrunken .m2v and the .ac3 into SpruceUp to make the DVD. Is there a help doc to show what setting to select in TMPGEnc?
