Nero 5.5 is a very good VCD burning program. It can encode and burn Mpeg1 to Video CD in either pal or NTSC.

Video CD's can be played back on most DVd players,as long as they can play video cds and cd-rs.

  4. I live in the uk and nearly all PAL TV's will display an NTSC signal no problem. Are you sure yours wont, because if it will leave the video as NTSC. And you are correct, dont use nero for encoding, use TMPGEnc, I run win xp pro and have not had a problem.

  6. you wont get anything good on kazaa most of the movies are taken with a cam corder vcd quality is ok but if yo want near perfect you need svcd but it only holds 40 min on 80 min blank cdr. kazaa hardly has svcd movies if you can get a divx on there its a bonus to get the svcd ones you have to search around for independent servers on aol who have the movies to download

Have you tried TMPGEnc, if not give it a go, I am sure you will find it better than nero for encoding

Another person who has never use Kazaa, I download DVD rips regular, far superior to SVCD's for other places. The VCD's I have made with these (2 disks) are as good as DVD's

Don't use Kazaa, use Kazaa lite, its spy free and has lots of enhancements over the regular Kazaa. As for the conversions, I use PAL the same as you, our equipment is the same, never had any problems converting anything to PAL whether the source was NTSC or not.

If you TV's are old, chances are they wont display NTSC, but your DVD player should. Also since you have not made any before stick to the basics, your DVD player might not play SVCD anyway.

The first VCD you make should be on good quality CD-R's made with a fully compliant VCD mpeg produced by loading a PAL VCD template in TMPGEnc. Then when you can see this has working you may wish to try others. But don't start with something that is more likely not too work.

What is the name of the cable company, and which part of Oz it it in ?
I have a lot of people in Oz who would love to have cable.
