i've been converting divx movies to vcd w/ tmpgenc and everytime i do it the converted mpg has pinkish block of noise appearing every now and then which is not present on the original divx file. What is the solution for this?

  2. Is it only on the Burned VCD or is it also there when you play the MPEG file in Media Player?

  4. I have to say, I convert Divx files with Tpgenc all the time and have never come across this before... Is it just with the one Divx file or every one you convert? If its just the one then you could have a bad file. If its present on all of them then i would think it would be a codec problem.

Do you have the SMR (Angel potion) codec installed, if you do un-install the rubbish.

Control panel - sounds and audio devices - hardware - video codecs - properties - properties. Highlight the codec to be removed (if it is there) and hit the "remove" button.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Nimo does not include the SMR
Have you also set the DirectDraw priority higher in TMPGEnc ?

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectDraw" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

  9. SMR isnt a part of Nemo so you probably dont have it... I have found that i can convert Divx files with just he 5.02 codec installed, you could try that...

  10. How long is your GOP?
If I have a GOP which is too long the VID develops green blocks in a pattern over the frame, which get worse the longer it goes without an I frame to clear it up.

  12. GOP=GroupOfPictures

    http://bmrc.berkeley.edu/frame/research/mpeg/mpeg_overview.html

"An MPEG-1 video sequence is an ordered stream of bits, with a special bit patterns marking the beginning and ending of a logical section.

Each video sequence is composed of a series of Groups of Pictures (GOP's). A GOP is composed of a sequence of pictures (frames). A frame is composed of a series of slices. A slice is composed of a series of macroblocks, and a macroblock is composed of 6 or fewer blocks (4 for luminance and 2 for chrominance) and possibly a motion vector.

The GOP structure is intended to assist random access into a sequence. A GOP is independently decodable unit that can be of any size as long as it begins with an I-frame. (There is one caveat here, SEQUENCES are a higher level structure than GOPs, and may contain information about quantization tables. Their information is needed to decode all following GOPs.) GOPs are independently decodable if they are closed, for example a GOP with the pattern IBBP is closed, but the pattern IB is not.

Each slice is (in a sense) an independently decodable unit too. There can be 1 slice per frame, 1 slice per macroblock, or anything in between. The slice structure is intended to allow decoding in the presence of errors. Serendipitously, it also allows parallel encoding/decoding at the slice level."
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

ty King John for the DirectDraw setting/plugin it seems to do the trick. The higher the priority the lesser the pinkish dots appearing.

Thanks for the GOP info Mirror

Glad you got it sorted, so many things to consider we sometimes over look the basics.

  15. Actually I was referring to sort of transparent blocks appearing over the frame...through which you could still see the VID.
Thinking back, DivX 5.00 had some trouble with bright magenta errors appearing in place of image parts.
The errors happened in abcence of a Key/Iframe and the compressor left gaps in the image through which the base direct draw colour was visible.
    Which one did you use?
