Hello All...
OK I am having a big problem. I am getting about 10% - 18% frame loss with a 25 minute video capture.
I am using VirtualDub V1.4.10 and AVI_IO. I am useing the Huffy and PICVideo MJPEG Codecs. I have followed the two guides from her...(How to Capture to MJPEG or HUFFYUV and after convert to (S)VCD with any TV-Card or Video-In-Card AND High Quality Capturing with Little Frame Loss in VirtualDub) And the guide from http://www.lukesvideo.com/.
I tried different settings, filters and potions. Still 10% - 18% frame drop
I found the only way to get the frame loss down to 3% - 5% is drop the frame rate to 15 or less.
Now for my SYSTEM SPECS.
Capturing from Tivo using S-Video Capturing to the Maxtor C:\capture.avi
Capturing with Dazzle DVC 80 (USB)
Win98Se (New install with all updates - No other software installed)
ASUS A7V333 MB
AMD XP 1700+
256 MB Ram
Maxtor ATA 100 or 133 (cant remember) 40GB HD (Boot drive)
WD ATA100 20GB (D: Drive - Back up)
GeForce 3 200TI Video

dude this isn't irc, you can't expect an answer just like that. Now I will try to help you out. In the directory where vdub is, you will find a program called auxsetup (i think thats the name). Run it and you will see a benchmarking utility, try that and see where you stand. Also i will go on record and say that capturing from usb is really not a very good idea. Usb can not handle the bandwidth needed for video. Anyway, let me know what the benchmarking program says. If it fails, then your hd may not have dm enabled, too many programs running in the background, ect...

Sorry for the impatience....
But DMA is enabled and there are no programs running but explorer, systray and VurtalDub -
Well the test passed. 0 Frams dropped
and the second test was
281319 KB/s (Read)
34641 KB/s (Write) -
make sure there are no devices sharing the same irq. right click on my computer, goto properties, third tab, locate divice manager. now see if you can tell if there are any devices sharing it. if there are, see if you can disable them by going to bios setup and shutting them off. good luck.

Almost impossible to avoid frame drops when capturing to boot drive, there are periodic interuptions from OS. Try cap to D:. Also try cap without sound, may be your sound card.

"Try cap to D:. Also try cap without sound, may be your sound card."
Neither helped.
I am losing 2200 frames and capturing 46000. Is that going to be a big deal?
Is it maybe the Dazzle???
Anyone know of any other "After market" drivers (Not from dazzle) that might help? -
my 2 cents worth here is that you are using a USB to capture. From many of the posts I have read (I personally have minimal experiance with the USB dazzle product (I bought the 80 and used it for about 10 minutes and returned it because of frame rate drops capturing over 352x240).
Actually, that might be the answer. Are you capturing at someting about 352x240???? When I tried it, it just couldn't handle that much data pumping through that little USB cable.
I switched over to a ATI TV Wonder card ($50 at best buy) and have been EXTREMELY pleased with the results, when using powervcrII with the tweeks. NO frame drops. The only bad thing is that I can't capture in AVI, but I personally don't see the difference between the AVI capture and the MPEG 2 Capture (480x480 2250bit rate). The only difference is that I can burn the file IMMEDIATELY after I capture it (or 5 minutes later with the powervcrII commercial cutter program) with nero.
You might want to consider purchasing either a dedicated capture card or a TV tuner and doing away with the USB solutions.
