Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I am a complete novice with the above but have had some success converting Divx/avi to VCD following the instructions given on this site.
However I now find that I am unable to convert any more because Virtual dub & TMPGenc no longer recognise the video of source files. I am very puzzled because as far as I am aware I have changed nothing (on the basis of "if it works, leave it alone") The programs will convert/re-convert the audio OK so I thought that perhaps the video was in a format that the programs would not recognise. having tried again with sources that would previously convert OK I find that this is not the case. I am sure that this must be a problem that others must have had & resolved & would therefore really appreciate any advice that you could give me.

Thank you in anticipation of your replies

  2. At least for TMPGenc you may use the settings described in the link below:

  3. I had a similar problem except with audio.
It's the Microsoft Paradigm. When all else fails, restart. If that fails, re-install the codec, and then restart.
Before you do that, though, just check to see if it'll play in WMP.

Thanks for the response. Yes the files will play in WMP & in Divx player 2.0 alpha perfectly. I have restarted several times & have even reinstalled the software in case there was some kind of corruption.

I am not really conversant with these procedures I am not sure how to reinstall the codec as a single operation?
    Yes I am a DUMMY

  5. However you installed the codec in the first place, just redo that. ie, for DivX3, run the RegisterDivx program included in the download package.
This will reinstall the codec in the registry. I don't know why, but sometimes (at least on my system) it drops codecs off the registry even though the files are still there. WMP knows specifically where to look so doesn't need these entries. Virtual Dub on the other hand does.
    Good luck.
