  1. My DVD standalone JVC XV-S42SL has started to fail reading MP3 and SVCDs. I am changing it for a new DVD player.

The majority of this features can be found trough the database on the site, but this post goes more for the last one:

What I like is something that gives me the oportunity to play:

    Must be Zone Free
It must accept well PAL and NTSC titles
    DVDs (off course)
VCDs (without problems on CDRW and CDR)
    SVCDs (" " ")
    MP3 recorded cds (" " ")
I need coax sound digital out.

    The question is:

I like to have the oportunity to see on screen the names of the songs on an MP3 disk (this was one of the things that I didn't like from my JVC, it played the disks but the OSD was very poor, not only for MP3 but in DVDs the info was also poor. Have seen that the Pioneer models have excelent on screen info.

I am litle dated on standalones information and the best database that I have found is in this site.

I am in Norway so I need european SCART connectors or SVIDEO.

Any help GREATLY apreciated as always

  2. Check out the GE 1101P. It'll do region free with a firmware hack, and should do most of the other things you're looking for.

Check out the databason on this model. One guy there said it doesn't do a great job converting PAL. I can niether confirm nor deny that, but you ought to look into it before you buy.

  3. Mustek. I have a mustek v520 dvd player and it has all the features you described but in mp3 disks it only shows 8 caracters for each file name. I'm in Portugal so we share the same system PAL. It has excelent quality especially in RGB via scart cable. It plays VCD, (X)VCD, SVCD, (X)SVCD, MP3, CDA, CVD. It's excellent.

  4. I have been recommended the Grundig Xenaro models. Any word about them? They are well rated on the DB.
